The Trey Whitfield School Choir
The Trey Whitfield School Choir, under the inspirational direction of Mr.
Shelton Quiller and Ms. Donna White has not only served as an anchor for its
students and staff, but has provided the foundation of the Cultural Arts
Program, a vision of the School's Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Ms. Janie
C. Whitney.
The Choir enjoys a wide reputation for excellence and accomplishment having
performed at numerous regional, state and local occasions such as The Brooklyn
Academy of Music, the NY State Capital in Albany, holiday events at Tiffany's
and Sotheby's, the annual Dr. Martin Luther King services at Brewster Academy in
Wolfeboro, New Hampshire. Additionally, the choir has performed annual concert
events at various New England Prep School and at community nursing homes and
hospitals.
Involvement in the Choir, consisting of 40+ members, between grades 3
through 8, represents both challenges and rewards for those students meeting the
criteria for acceptance. Each student must pass an audition, be nominated by a
teacher sponsor and be amongst the highest performing students academically
before being considered for placement. "It is indeed an honor and privilege to
represent our school in such a distinguished manner" says eighth grader Whitney
White, a member of the choir for the past seven years.
The School's Music Program was formed as the result of Ms. Whitney's desire to
expose the student body to an appreciation of the various forms of expression
including gospel, jazz, swing, rock, rap and country. The music program
currently includes appreciation in Early Childhood, learning to read music in
the Lower School (nursery-third) and Music Theory in the Middle and Upper School
(fourth-eighth).
