Janie Whitney - The heart, soul and strength of East New York - May 2011

Our very own Trey Whitfield School Founder Janie Whitney has been given the prestigious honor of being named one of Brooklyn's Women of Distinction by the Community Newspaper Group and Courier Life Publications. Wall Street Journal - Donor of the Day - November 24, 2010

To David Lerner, a former South Bronx history teacher turned investment adviser, the public education system in New York just doesn't work.

To that end, the founder of David Lerner Associates, a Syosset, N.Y.-based investment firm, has thrown his support behind a different approach to education that works by giving students and parents what he calls true accountability.

Next week Mr. Lerner will give $25,000 to the Trey Whitfield School, a private school in one of Brooklyn's most underperforming school districts. His most recent gift brings his support to the school to $300,000 since he became involved seven years ago.

Trey Whitfield School celebrates the life of Rev. Timothy Wright - April 24, 2009

Timothy Wright, the Brooklyn-born reverend whose gospel music reached countless followers far beyond New York City, died just after 1 a.m. Friday at Bronx Veterans Hospital from injuries sustained in a car accident last year.  He was 61 years old.  more...
