The STEAM for Social Change After-school Program offered by DIVAS for Social Justice provides a comprehensive curriculum that integrates Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) with social justice principles. By participating in this program, youth are given the tools and knowledge to critically engage with their surroundings and leverage technology and the arts to advocate for equitable changes within their communities. Through hands-on social justice action projects, collaborative workshops, and mentorship from professionals in the field, participants learn to apply STEAM skills in ways that address local social issues, fostering a generation of informed, skilled, and compassionate individuals ready to make a positive impact.

The mission of the STEAM for Social Change program is to encourage and empower youth to use technology towards a social action project in their community.

Youth are trained in digital media, coding, robotics, 3D Printing while examining and researching their communities through traditional and interactive mediums.

The goals of the overall program are to:

  •    Expose and Empower youth in underserved communities to STEAM based activities.
  •    Provide technology based real life solutions that could be implemented and presented to the community regarding community issues.
  •    Build leadership skills in youth to become the change agents of their community.
  •    Build alliances with parents to advocate for STEM/STEAM exposure in underserved communities.
